Aaron Jack on Why Success Means Being Ready For Something New

It’s common to think that success is a fixed point that you’ll eventually get to. However, success means different things to different people. Aaron Jack, a software developer, believes that you should never be satisfied and continue moving forward, no matter how well you’ve done in your life.

After college, Aaron Jack wanted to travel the world. He made less than $10k a year teaching English in Asia. While it was exciting to have location independence, he knew this was a dead-end job. He quickly realized that he could make money in the software industry, even if he had to self-teach. It only took him eight months of learning before he was working at Uber, one of the biggest tech companies in the world. “I felt like I’d hit the ultimate definition of success,” said Aaron. “I couldn’t imagine anything better than making all this money.” However, after about two years, he realized that San Francisco wasn’t for him, and he needed to try something different. He started freelancing, which gave him the ability to travel, and his YouTube channel began to explode. “My definition of success began to change,” says Aaron. “I realized that I needed to be ready for the next challenge to continue to feel successful.” Aaron now offers a coding and software development bootcamp. “I’m quite thrilled about where I am now, but I’m also ready to try something new when the opportunity arises.”

If you are wondering how he achieved all this, Aaron Jack recommends not getting too attached to any particular endeavor. In a couple of years, you might find that it no longer suits you. The idea of success keeps evolving substantially over the years. “Be willing to make a change if a new opportunity arises,” he says. “Don’t let security keep you from chasing your new definition of success.”
