Season 2 of local telenovela, Accra Medic series has premiered with a call on Ghanaians to patronise products made in the country.

Accra Medic is an evocative medical drama series that explores the health inequity and disparity in the Ghanaian Medical system.

It follows the lives of the staff at an Accra hospital, as they navigate the challenges of their lives while saving patients in a hospital that is suffering from mismanagement in a country with an ailing healthcare system.

The 26 episodes for 13 weeks which will be shown at 8:30pm on Wednesdays Akwaaba Magic unveiled what transpires at the various departments of the hospital.

Speaking at the premiere on Tuesday, January 17, at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), Mr. Alex Okyere, Managing Director of MultiChoice Ghana, in his address said, aside Dede, Eno and Inspector Bediako series on their platforms, Accra Medic is the most watched show on Akwaaba Magic and believe with this new season, the numbers would even increase.

He said there is a reawakening of the Ghanaian movie industry and with the blessing of the National Film Authority, they will commission more Ghanaian shows that resonate with their audience.

Mr. Okyere expressed his appreciation to the University of Ghana Medical Centre and the entire staff for supporting the production, and encouraged Ghanaians to continue to enjoy their rich local contents.

The Directors of the series, Mr Emmanuel Apea Jnr and Julia Apea said with his decades of experience it was more relaxing shooting at UGMC because they gave them full access and the medical processes were real, because they allowed them to use their facilities.

According to them, Ghana is blessed with wonderful actors and professionals in the industry who can deliver and be as profitable as Hollywood with the necessary support.

They expressed appreciation to all those who played a role in the production of the series and urged Ghanaians to continuously enjoy local production on Akwaaba Magic.

The Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of UGMC, Dr. Darius Osei, said allowing their premises to be used was a way to help patients and the public to appreciate what goes into healthcare delivery, and the facilities available at UGMC.

He called for further collaborations to improve on healthcare delivery in the country.
