The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev John Bonaventure Kwofie has called on Christians never to grow weary but persevere in prayer since that is the only way to succeed in life.

Preaching the homily at St John of God Catholic Church, Amrahia, on Sunday, October 16, 2022, where he administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 59 candidates, the Prelate encouraged the faithful to use prayer as the only weapon to win against Satan.

He explained that the Sacrament of Confirmation would make the confirmants to become soldiers of Christ, adding that the reception of the sacrament began with the renewal of their baptismal vows and urged them to work for the propagation of the kingdom of God.

The confirmants who had undergone many weeks of studies, were drawn from St John of God Catholic Church, Amrahia and St John Paul ll Catholic Church, Danfa, both in the Adentan Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

Archbishop Kwofie asked the confirmants to remain faithful to their calling by staying in the Catholic Church, pursue the cross of Jesus in all sincerity to enable them to attain salvation.

“Now that you have decided to follow Jesus, there should be no turning back but you must be faithful in what you have learnt and believed,” he advised.

He called on the faithful to refrain from illegal mining for personal gains, even if the land belonged to their ancestors because the act was destroying the environment with serious consequences.

He commended the faithful for responding promptly in providing humanitarian assistance to residents of Weija in Accra who were affected by the recent floods, and urged them to cooperate with the Archdiocese in measures put in place to combat cyber-crime in the country.

The President of the Parish Pastoral Council, Mr Edward Adimazoya, in his welcome address assured the Archbishop that the church was determined to work hard towards attaining the status of a parish. He pleaded for the elevation of St John Paul ll Catholic Church, Danfa, an out station of the church, to the status of a Rectorate because of the success it had chalked over the period.

He said St John of God Catholic Church had planned to construct a multipurpose Parish Conference Hall and meeting rooms, Grotto and a school in the medium to long term among other projects.

Very Rev Fr Christopher Vordzorgbe , a Visiting Priest prayed for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates who were in church, while the Knights of St John International,  Commandary  898, and Ladies Auxiliaries 814 of St John of God Catholic Church, Amrahia, presented an undisclosed amount of money in support of the Archbishop’s  “ Legacy of Hope Project.”

On October 31, 2021, St John of God Catholic Church was elevated to the status of a Rectorate and Very Rev Fr Bernard Kyei was appointed as the Priest-In-Charge.
