Men have been advised not to abandon their partners when they are diagnosed with breast cancer.

According to a Breast Surgeon, women are most affected by this disease and need love and attention, but they are rather rejected.

Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai gave this advice a Health Talk organised by the Peace and Love Hospital in collaboration with Provident Insurance Company at Accra at the Accra College of Education Demonstration School on Thursday.

“I have survivors of breast cancer whose husbands neglected or abandoned them, thinking they will die but they are still alive and looking beautiful” she said .

The event themed “Breast Cancer Wont Rest So Why Should We” was to create awareness on the disease and how it can be cured.

She explained that family members must also show love to breast cancer survivors and encourage them in these difficult times because their presence could make them live longer even after recovery.

Dr Wiafe Addai stated that World Health Organisation (WHO) Report showed that cancer was killing more women than Malaria and HIV and stressed the need for women to be enlightened.

She added that self-examination and early detection would help save the situation in time, and cautioned against stigmatization.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Provident Insurance Company, Mr Michael Justice Ashongalso stated that as part of the company to give back to society, they collaborated with Peace and Love Hospital for this worthy course.

“Provident Insurance is 40 years this month and we want to use this opportunity for women to go for free screening which is sponsored by the company. Let all continue to educate women against this deadly disease in Ghana and Globally.I am proud to be part of this exercise as we cover the entire cost“he empasised.
