Fuel price reduction insignificant

Dear Editor,

I thought the government was listening to various interest groups calling for reduction in fuel prices until I heard the recent announcement by the Finance Minister.

The ministry in its recent statement indicated that the price of petroleum products would be cut down by 0.15 pesewas per litre, effective April 1, 2022. This so-called reduction is insignificant, to say the least.

Some groups have said the reduction makes mockery of the plight of Ghanaians, and I cannot agree more. The decision, in my view, does not inure to the benefit of ordinary citizens. If the government wants to show genuine concern to the plight of the people, it must do better than the 0.15 pesewas reduction yet to be implemented.

Petroleum products, including diesel are currently sold between GH¢10 and GH¢11 per litre, therefore, the paltry reduction makes no difference at all.

I suggest the government comes to announce a more appreciable figure if it indeed intend to alleviate the suffering of citizens who bear the brunt of the escalating fuel prices.

Mavis Tetteh,

Akuapim-Mampong.
