Galaxies roar off CHAN campaign against Madagascar

• The Galaxies ready to roar

Ghana’s home-based national team, the Black Galaxies, will begin their campaign at the 2022 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament with a clash with Madagascar tomorrow.

The Galaxies would be fired up to begin their campaign on a bright note with a win which would be a huge boost as far as qualifying from the group stages are concerned.

Ghana would be appearing at the tournament for the first time since 2014 and it should be their fourth at the competition after making it to the continental showpiece in Cote d’Ivoire, Sudan and South Africa in 2009, 2011 and 2014 respectively.

They also managed to be at two grand finals in their three appearances (2009 and 2014) and would be looking forward to replicate their showing after a six-year absence.

The team had shown great determination and desire to make the nation proud after a long absence after their impressive preparations including beating Al Ahly 3-1 and holding the host Algeria to a goalless draw in a pre-tournament friendlies.

The likes of Danlad Ibrahim and Afriyie Barnieh who were part of the Black Stars squad at the just-ended 2022 World Cup in Qatar coupled with experienced skipper Gladson Awako would be a huge boost to the Ghana team.

The Black Galaxies will face Sudan on January 19 in their second game before clashing with highly rated Morocco in their final group game on January 23.

The 2023 CHAN tournament – which is its seventh edition, began on yesterday January 13 and will end on February 4.
