Gyabs Foundation reaches out to pupils at McCarthy Hill Basic School

In a bid to break the stigma surrounding menstruation, Gyabs Foundation, a non-profit organisation, visited the McCarthy Hill Basic School at Awoshie at the weekend, to sensitise young girls about menstrual health and hygiene.

This was the second edition of the foundation’s annual project dubbed the ‘M2H2’ project. The team donated over 200 packs of sanitary pads to the pupils from JHS 1 to 3 as well as some members of staff.

Mrs Elizabeth Konadu-Boakye, Founder of Gyabs Foundation, stressed the need to break the stigma surrounding menstruation which is a natural phenomenon.

She said her team would tour other schools outside the capital and, therefore, called on philanthropists and stakeholders to join her change the narratives of young girls in the country.

Mr. Thy-will Delali Aboflah, a medical doctor at the St Andrews Clinic, led an interactive session where pupils were provided additional education on menstrual health and measures to take when severe cramps occur.

The school’s headmaster, Mr Michael Agbai, receiving the items on behalf of the school, expressed gratitude to the Foundation for the initiative.
