Scenes from the Central Business District …as many continue to disregard face masks

The blatant disregard for face or nose masks and general COVID-19 safety protocols is still on the increase in Accra.

Our photographer Ms Lizzy Okai, who was out and about town early this week and, reports that apart from a handful of individuals who partially wore the masks in public transports, many traders at the Central Business District in Accra did not seem to take precaution any longer.

Initially, some task force members at the various market ensured sellers and buyers observed the safety protocols before they entered the market but that is hardly seen these days.

Hand washing facilities placed at vantage points have also been ‘abandoned’ in recent times as a number of traders have expressed fatigue in the wearing of the masks and abiding by the protocols. Others also continue to give flimsy excuses while going about their businesses.

According to experts, the lackadaisical attitude put up by many citizens could lead to a second wave of COVID-19.

Some observers also say that there is laxity in the enforcement of the safety protocols due to the upcoming elections and that there could be another lockdown after the December polls.

For now, only time will tell how the pandemic can be kicked out for good.
