Warm up to Valentine …gift shops, streets turn red

Warm up to Valentine …gift shops, streets turn red

• Gifts ready for dispatch

The month of love is here again and the city, as usual, is warming up to commemorate the day, with barely three days left for various lovers’ day activities to take off.

Apart from chocolates, champagnes and other gift bouquets, some traders in Accra are taking advantage of the celebrations to sell anything red.

Clearly, high prices of some of the items, however, would not deter the ‘love birds’ from showing their love in a special way.

A number of customers were seen stocking their gift baskets at some of the shops visited at the Central Business District ahead of the celebrations.

Some of the shops have virtually turned red with the display of skimpy dresses, lingeries, and underwear, all in red. Traders who spoke off record said apart from expressing love, the day was an opportunity to sell outfits and items which were not bought in previous years.

One would have thought that in this era of digitalisation, greeting cards would no longer be stocked on shelves. However, one of the shops visited, had enough for those who still want to express their love in the ‘traditional way.’

Although Tuesday, February 14, 2023 is the D-day, Valentine would not always be about amorous love, it is an occassion to show appreciation, deepen existing relations or even celebrate everything one has achieved in other aspects of their lives
