Watch these motor tricycles!

Refuse-conveying motor tricycles, locally known as ‘Aboboyaa’ are becoming a nuisance on some roads in Accra, especially the route leading  to the Accra Waste Recovery Park on the Korle-Bu Mortuary road.

The riders often defy road safety regulations as they head for the facility to dispose waste. They do not abide by the demarcated routes leading into the park and sometimes curve dangerously to face on-coming vehicles thus posing  a threat to other road users.

Although some of these tricycle owners have been licensed to operate, their conduct, leaves much to be desired.

Off to dumping grounds

In an interview, with The Spectator, a driver at the Circle-Korle-Bu station by name, Taller, said it was very frightening when ‘the refuse carriers unexpectedly negotiate bends to park’

“It is a worry for those of us who use that stretch of road: This keeps happening day after day but who are we going to report to ?“ he asked.

City authorities must take keen interest in making sure all road and traffic regulations are adhered to in order to protect life and property.
