Watchman foils attempt to steal 3-year-old girl
Two dreadlocked men were chased away at Kaneshie on Sunday at about 2:00 am when they sneaked into a mosquito net to steal a three-year-old child.
The child is said to have been sleeping on one of the verandahs of a house near the Kaneshie Market Complex with her mother and other hawkers who also occupy the place in the night.
An eye witness account has it that the little girl upon seeing these two “nocturnal rastamen” stealthily approaching the mosquito net under which they were sleeping, decided to cry but the mother and those around were fast asleep and did not know what was going on.
The source said that when the two persons grabbed the little girl and were taking her away , an old man believed to be a watchman appeared on the scene and questioned the two suspicious characters at the top of his voice to know where they were going with the child at that ungodly hour.
According to the source, the voice of the watchman then woke the people around from sleep to see what was, indeed, happening.
For fear of arrest and possible lynching, the two persons were said to have left the little girl and managed to escape on a motorbike which was parked not far from the area of crime when they were chased by a mob.
All attempt to reach the mother of ‘victim’ at the time of filing this report did not materialise because they have relocated to an unknown location within the national capital, Accra without reporting the matter at the Kaneshie Police Station.
