Yam Eto (Baayere Eto/ Ɛto)


 Yam Eto, also known as Baayere Eto or Ɛto, is a tradition­al delicacy often used to commemorate birthdaysand other special days and events.


• 3 pounds of yam, peeled and cut into cubes

• 2 large onions finely chopped

• 4 large green pepper

• Half bottle of palm oil

• 3 eggs

• Salt to taste

• Water


-Peel, wash and cut yam into suitable sizes(yam should be of similar size to ensure even cooking).

-Cover pot and let it simmer gently for about 20-30 min­utes or until the yam is tender.

 -Pour out rest of water used to cook yam when it is ready.

-Heat palm oil and chopped onion in a large pot over medium heat.

– Grind onion, pepper and salt in an earthern ware.

-Gently add cooked yam to onion, pepper and salt and mash.

-Mash yam until it mixes well and serve.
