EC set Tuesday, May 23 for Kumasi By-Election

The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has set Tuesday, May 23 to hold a by-election at Kumawu in the Ashanti Region.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Electoral Commissioner, Jean Mensah.

Following the untimely demise of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)Member of Parliament for the Constituency Philip Basoah, the seat was declared vacant and by article 112(5) of the constitution, as amended, the EC has come out with a day for the by-election.

Accordingly the EC will go ahead to receive nominations for the election from May 2nd to May 5, at the Sekyere Kumawu District Electoral Office between the hours of 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on each day.

Interested candidates are required to download the forms from the EC website.

The NPP has set April 23, to vote for their candidates, and so far, the current Director of Health Promotion at the Ghana Health Services (GHS), Dr Aboagye Dacosta; a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumawu, Opanyin Yaw Baah; Obaapa Ama Serwaa, Ernest Anim, Dr Philip Yaw Barnor, Edward Kofi Osei, Kwame Appiah Kubi and Owusu Bempah have all picked forms to contest.
