Police arrest 9 persons over false claims of disappearance of their genitals

The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has arrested nine persons across the country for the publication of false news regarding the alleged disappearance of their genitals that led to fear and panic among the public and attacks on innocent citizens.

In a statement signed by Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Assistant Commissioner of Police Director, Public Affairs, noted that the Police investigations, including medical examinations, disclosed that all the claims are false.

It added that six persons have been arrested at Kasoa, Central region, two in Ashaiman in the Greater Accra region and another at Nkawkaw in the Eastern region for making such false claims of missing genitals.

Five have been arraigned before court, with three remanded into police custody and two granted bail.

Additionally, the rest are on Police enquiry bail.

The Ghana Police Service has noted with concern that this increasing trend of persons making false claims of the disappearance of their genitals and blaming innocent bystanders sometimes leads to mob attacks.

They have against this backdrop cautioned the public against such criminal claims which tend to disturb public peace.
