The beauty of culture at NOP traditional day

The recent traditional day of the Northern Outreach Programme (NOP) of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) at Mayera in Accra saw beautiful display of drumming, dancing and singing from different cultures of the northern part of Ghana specifically the Upper East Region.

The event which was hosted by the PCG, Ga Mission Field at Mayera was to commemorate the 33rd anniversary of the Northern Outreach Programme of the Church.

Rev Joseph Oman Ocquaye Coordinator of the Ga Mission Field of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in his address said the inculcation of culture into Christian worship would help appreciate the nature of Jesus Christ.

According to him, God knew the importance of culture that was the reason He created different cultures, languages and races of the world.

Rev John Bosco Dogeneriba, Coordinator of the Ga Presbytery also said the event was not only to showcase the rich culture of the people from the northern part of Ghana but to reach out to other people to also join the family of Jesus Christ.

He spoke on the theme: “Preaching the Gospel to The Stranger” at the Osofoiaman Presbyterian School Park at Mayera.

The programme again offered the opportunity to showcase some ceremonial songs such as marriage, farming and Builsa Nagela dance.

Recounting how he became a Christian, Rev Dogeneriba said “Someone announced to me that there is a Kassena Church nearby, where they read, sing and preach in their local dialect and it made it very easy for me to accept the message of Jesus Christ”

He disclosed that the theme for next year’s programme would be “Culture a Tool for Propagating the Gospel of Jesus Christ”

There was also a showcase of variety of local dishes from the northern part of Ghana. 

The programme which was under the auspices of the chairperson of the Ga Presbytery Rev. Dr Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye and attended by Rev Samuel Sarfo Mensah, Rev Norbert Ayaamo, Catechist Felix Asare.
