The ‘multipurpose’ function of the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange

The tomfoolery of some people at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange in Accra seems to take a different shape everyday.

Talk less of the poor maintenance of the structure as some drivers and ‘okada’ riders are gradually turning the paved median of the interchange into parking spaces.

The interchange has become a playground, ‘bedroom’ and dumpsite for some members of the public.

Waste collection trucks are often seen clearing heap of refuse dumped in the area by some unscrupulous persons, despite the warnings by the authorities for people to keep the city clean.

These pictures by our photographer Victor A. Buxton, highlight the extent of lawlessness and unkempt state of the area.

City authorities may be overwhelmed by the existing recklessness and the defiance by the general public but it is important they rise up to the task once again and check, especially, the dumping of refuse on the pavement.
