HO West GES provides stand by vehicle for pregnant BECE candidate

In the event of going into labour while writing this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), the Ho West District Directorate of Education in the Volta Region found it prudent to make a vehicle available for a 17-year-old candidate who was nine months pregnant and could possibly give birh within that time, in the exam hall.
“She is due to give birth so it is only a matter of time that she will go into labour.
“We admire the young girl’s courage to sit the exam and so we pray that she finishes the BECE on Friday before that happens”.
The District Director of Education, Madam celestine Korsi-Agordo said these when she toured some of the centres to assess the situation on the ground relative to conduct of the examination.
She said, that in all there were five pregnant teenagers sitting the BECE at the four centres in the district.
According to her, three of the pregnant girls were about 16y ears old.
She said that the oldest of them was 17 while the youngest was 14 years old.
Madam Korsi-Agordo appealed to the parents of the pregnant candidates to continue to see them through Senior High School (SHS) if they passed their BECE papers.
“With the Free SHS Policy, the financial burden is now less heavy,” she said.
No incident was recorded at the respective examination centres in the Ho West District where the candidates wrote the final paper last Friday.
