13 Medical students undergo White Coat ceremony

The Accra College of Medicine (ACM) has held its seventh White Coat ceremony for 13 medical students.

The President of the College, Prof Mrs Afua Adjo Jectey Hesse said the ceremony symbolised the critical part of the students’ medical education, professionalism, caring and trust which they ought to earn from patients.

She asked the students to focus on their studies, because the clinical stage of the training demanded they compile the history of patients, examine and investigate to enable them to find the best treatment.

“Your learning at this stage depends on yourself, since you have the tools necessary for your training. Therefore, take advantage of what is available to you and strive hard to complete the next three years of your studies successfully, “she advised.

The Guest Speaker, Prof Aaron Lante Lawson, a professor of Anatomy, formerly of the University of Ghana Medical School, said the ceremony symbolised responsibility, dedication, empathy for the patients and the aspirations of many individuals.

He said the ceremony was key to their life-long learning to become great physicians, and this demanded that they worked as a team.

He cautioned that though they would face challenges, sleepless nights and moments of self- doubts in their profession, they should remain resilient and not forget about the need to care for themselves.

Present at the ceremony were Prof Rev Adukwei Hesse, a founding member of ACM, Prof Steve Adei, member of the governing board among others.
