Basic steps to heart health

Basic steps to heart health

Smoking can be dangerous

In a few days it will be World Heart Day (29th September) and the heart is once more in focus.

Even a perceived disease of the heart will get people to seek professional care immediately but of course in all things we have the “stubborn academy” who will wait till things virtually fall apart.

The heart is associated with many exciting things such as love, good health, death and many more and it is no surprise that broken heart syndrome, heart attacks, heart failure and many more also find their way to this beloved organ.

We should do our best to take good care of our hearts and that includes controlling certain health conditions we may already have BUT all of us should be able to follow these easy steps to heart health;

1. DO NOT smoke and do not inhale smoke from others

2. Eat more fruits and vegetables

3. Stay active/exercise; let your heart work to strengthen it

4. Eat Healthy

a. Your food should be low in saturated fats such as full cream milk, animal fat

b. Food should be low in refined carbohydrates such as sugar, white bread and white rice

c. Low in salt

d. Add a handful of nuts

5. Stay happy. Self-care is a must! Laugh, breathe, rest and engage in hobbies

AS ALWAYS LAUGH OFTEN, ENSURE HYGIENE, WALK AND PRAY EVERYDAY AND REMEMBER IT’S A PRICELESS GIFT TO KNOW YOUR NUMBERS (blood sugar, blood pressure, blood cholesterol, BMI)
